ODM Party Moves to Neutralize Sifuna, Babu Owino, and Orengo with New Political Maneuver

KISUMU, Kenya — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is planning a decisive counter-offensive to contain a growing internal rebellion that threatens to tear the political outfit apart following the passing of its long-serving leader, the late Raila Odinga.

Despite Dr. Oburu Oginga being ratified to guide the flock, a severe leadership vacuum has fueled widening factions.

The party is now split down the middle. One side features the “Linda Ground” faction led by Dr. Oburu, which advocates for closer ties with the ruling administration. On the other side stands the “Linda Mwananchi” team—spearheaded by embattled Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino—who argue that the party is losing its national footprint and grassroots identity.

In a direct bid to outsmart the rebels and reassert authority over its traditional bedrock, the mainstream ODM leadership has organized a major political rally in Kisumu County scheduled for May 31, 2026.

According to political analysts, this highly anticipated rally is a calculated maneuver explicitly designed to neutralize the influence of Orengo, Sifuna, and Babu Owino.

It comes on the heels of a highly successful rally hosted in Kisumu by the “Linda Mwananchi” team, which demonstrated their strong appeal among grassroots supporters who favor a more aggressive opposition stance.

“The upcoming Kisumu rally is an existential battle for the soul of ODM,” noted political analyst Juma Ayro. “Oburu’s faction needs to prove they still hold the keys to the kingdom, especially after Orengo and Sifuna successfully flexed their muscles on the same home turf.”

As the May 31 showdown approaches, the “Linda Ground” faction faces the uphill task of convincing a restless base that the party remains strong, disciplined, and united, even as the shadow of structural division grows longer.
