Manchester United have officially parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim following a dramatic breakdown in relations between the Portuguese tactician and the club’s senior hierarchy.
The decision comes in the wake of Amorim’s extraordinary public outburst, which reportedly left club executives with little option but to act.
Amorim, who had been under mounting pressure at Old Trafford, stunned observers when he openly rejected the title of “head coach,” insisting he was the club’s “manager” and urging senior officials to “do their jobs.”
His remarks were widely interpreted as a direct attack on United’s recruitment structure, including sporting director Jason Wilcox and the scouting department.
Emergency meetings were swiftly convened after the comments, and United confirmed Amorim’s departure in a brief statement.
With the club currently sitting sixth in the Premier League, the board said the change was made to give the team the best possible chance of finishing the season strongly. The club also thanked Amorim for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Former United midfielder and current Under-18s head coach Darren Fletcher has been appointed interim manager and will take charge of the upcoming league clash against Burnley.
Behind the scenes, tensions had been simmering for weeks. Amorim was reportedly frustrated by the club’s reluctance to fully back his preferred 3-4-2-1 system in the transfer market.
Disagreements intensified after reports emerged that United’s head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, had privately questioned Amorim’s tactical approach in a WhatsApp group involving senior decision-makers.
Transfers were at the heart of the dispute, with Amorim said to be unhappy about suggestions that United might avoid signing players during the January window.
While the coach pushed for reinforcements, including a central midfielder, wing-back, striker and centre-back, the club remained cautious, keen to avoid what it viewed as reactionary spending.
