Kenyans have reacted with mixed emotions after Rigathi Gachagua hinted at a possible political alliance with Edwin Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kajiado County during a homecoming event for a local DCP party chairperson, Gachagua revealed his intention to work with several opposition figures, including Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, and George Natembeya, in a bid to form a united front against William Ruto.
The former Deputy President emphasized that their shared goal is to send Ruto home and usher in what he termed as “a better leadership for Kenyans.”
The announcement sparked immediate excitement among sections of the crowd, especially when Gachagua mentioned Sifuna by name. In a video circulating online, supporters can be seen cheering loudly, signaling growing interest in a potential opposition coalition.
Sifuna, who serves as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement, has been actively mobilizing Kenyans through the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative.

In his rallies, he has consistently called on citizens to vote out the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing President Ruto of failing to deliver on his 2022 campaign promises as well as commitments made after the formation of a broad-based government arrangement.
Online reactions, however, revealed a divided public. While some Kenyans welcomed the idea of unity among opposition leaders, arguing it could strengthen chances of unseating Ruto, others expressed skepticism, citing past political realignments that failed to deliver meaningful change.
Political analysts note that such early alignments signal the beginning of intense behind-the-scenes negotiations as leaders position themselves for 2027.
Whether the proposed alliance materializes into a formidable coalition remains to be seen, but it has already stirred national conversation.
