Political activist Kelvin “Gaucho” has broken his silence following his recent appointment to the board of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, a move that sparked widespread debate among Kenyans online.
The appointment, made under the administration of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, raised eyebrows due to Gaucho’s lack of a formal background in healthcare or medical studies.
In a video that has since gone viral across social media platforms, Gaucho addressed the concerns head-on, stating that his role on the hospital board is rooted in representation and oversight rather than clinical expertise.
He emphasized that leadership positions in public institutions require commitment to service delivery, transparency, and accountability, qualities he believes he possesses.
However, it was his political declaration that has now shifted public attention. Gaucho revealed that he is setting his sights on the Embakasi East Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
He expressed confidence in his grassroots appeal and vowed to unseat the current Member of Parliament, Babu Owino.

The Embakasi East seat is expected to be highly contested, especially with reports indicating that Owino may be preparing a gubernatorial bid against Governor Sakaja.
This potential reshuffling of political ambitions sets the stage for a dynamic and unpredictable race in Nairobi’s political landscape.
Gaucho’s announcement has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters praising his boldness and critics questioning his readiness for legislative leadership.
Nonetheless, his growing visibility and alignment with key political figures suggest he may be positioning himself as a serious contender.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, all eyes will be on how Gaucho navigates his dual roles and whether his latest move will translate into political success.
