Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to political leaders from the Mount Kenya region who have not aligned themselves with his Democratic Change Party (DCP), signaling rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a public event in the Mount Kenya region, Gachagua made it clear that the era of political fence-sitting is coming to an end.
He declared that leaders must make a firm decision regarding their political allegiance within the next three to four months or prepare to face the electorate without the community’s backing.
According to Gachagua, the people of the central region are keenly observing their leaders and will not tolerate individuals who appear indecisive or disloyal to the region’s political direction.

He warned that those perceived as betraying the community’s interests risk being voted out in the upcoming elections.
In his remarks, the former Deputy President accused some leaders of prioritizing personal gain over the welfare of the Mount Kenya electorate.
He claimed that certain politicians are focused on advancing the agenda of President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration at the expense of their own constituents.
Gachagua emphasized that the 2027 elections will serve as a moment of accountability, where voters will decisively deal with leaders they view as “traitors.”
He urged Mount Kenya residents to remain vigilant and ensure that only leaders committed to defending the region’s interests are elected.
The remarks are expected to intensify political realignments in the region, as leaders weigh their options amid growing pressure to join DCP.
With the political landscape already shifting, Gachagua’s statement underscores the high stakes and fierce competition likely to define the road to 2027.
