Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shed light on his imminent departure from Kenya, confirming that he will soon travel to London for a temporary stay.
Speaking during a political event in Kiambu, Gachagua addressed growing public curiosity surrounding his planned trip, which is expected to last approximately two months.
The former deputy president explained that his visit to the United Kingdom will primarily focus on rest, strategic planning, and resource mobilization.
According to him, the break comes after weeks of intense political engagements within the opposition, which have seen him traverse different regions rallying support and consolidating alliances.
Gachagua made the remarks while leading a team during the unveiling of a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) gubernatorial candidate in Kiambu County.

He emphasized that the trip should not be misinterpreted as a retreat from politics, but rather a calculated move aimed at strengthening his political footing ahead of future contests.
“I will be taking a short break to reorganize, reflect, and engage with key stakeholders. I want to come back stronger, more focused, and ready for the task ahead,” he told supporters.
His announcement comes at a time when political temperatures in the country continue to rise, with opposition leaders intensifying their campaigns against President William Ruto and his administration.
Gachagua has recently been vocal in criticizing the government, positioning himself as a key figure in shaping the opposition’s strategy heading into the next election cycle.
Political analysts suggest that the trip could also provide him with an opportunity to engage with international partners and diaspora communities, potentially boosting his influence and support base.
Upon his return, Gachagua has promised to re-enter the political arena with renewed energy, ready to navigate what he described as “murky political waters” as the country edges closer to the 2027 general elections.
