Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has finally broken his silence after officially joining the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), months after dumping President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Havi, who has in recent weeks been seen warming up to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp, addressed the move through a strongly worded public statement, dismissing criticism and unsolicited advice from Kenyans questioning his political choice.

In a message shared on his social media platforms, the outspoken lawyer made it clear that his decision to leave UDA was not impulsive, revealing that he resigned from the ruling party over four months ago.

He faulted those now flooding his WhatsApp inbox with messages advising him against joining DCP, accusing them of selective activism and political hindsight.

“Please, do not spam my WhatsApp DM with advice or dissatisfaction with my choice to join DCP,” Havi stated. “Where have you been for the last four months since I resigned from UDA, to advise on what I should have done or not done?”

Havi went further to challenge his critics, suggesting that those who believe they understand politics better than him should seek elective office themselves instead of issuing online lectures.

“Weka picha yako na jina lako kwa ballot if you think you are more knowledgeable on the matter,” he remarked, a statement that has since sparked widespread debate on social media.

Political analysts view Havi’s move as part of a broader realignment ahead of the next general election, with DCP increasingly positioning itself as a key opposition outfit allied to Gachagua’s growing influence.

Havi has previously been vocal about governance, constitutionalism, and leadership accountability, often clashing with the Kenya Kwanza administration. His entry into DCP is expected to boost the party’s profile, especially among professionals and urban voters.

As political temperatures continue to rise, Havi’s bold stance signals that the battle lines for Kenya’s next political contest are steadily being drawn.
