Cracks In Linda Mwananchi As Caleb Hamisi Sends In New Demands
NAIROBI, Kenya — The newly formed Linda Mwananchi pressure group is facing its first major internal crisis after Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Hamisi issued a stern ultimatum, threatening to split the burgeoning opposition-led initiative.
The movement, conceptualized and spearheaded by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna alongside several prominent opposition figures, has been traversing the country to gather public views.
The initiative’s primary goal has been to consolidate a unified front to challenge President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration in the 2027 general election. However, those ambitions of a seamless coalition have hit a sudden snag.
Speaking on the political future of the alliance, Hamisi caught allies off guard by demanding that the united opposition must automatically nominate Edwin Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate. According to the vocal legislator, Sifuna represents the fresh leadership the country needs to steer the opposition to victory.

“If Linda Mwananchi and the broader opposition are serious about winning, Sifuna must be at the top of the ticket,” Hamisi stated, adding that he would personally walk away from the movement if his demands are ignored.
In a controversial twist, Hamisi further advised Sifuna to completely dump the initiative and let “Kenyans decide on their own” if the coalition partners refuse to grant him the presidential ticket.
The demands have sparked immediate tension within Linda Mwananchi, which relies on a fragile consensus among diverse political heavyweights.
Insiders worry that issuing hardline ultimatums this early could alienate other regional leaders and shatter the movement before it even formalizes its 2027 strategy.
With Sifuna yet to publicly respond to his ally’s aggressive lobbying, political analysts warn that these growing cracks could give the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration an early advantage.
