Gachagua’s Bold Move in Ruto’s Backyard Triggers Political Waves
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has escalated his political offensive against President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general election.
Ever since his impeachment, Gachagua has traversed various regions of the country, directly addressing citizens to explain why they should re-evaluate their support for the current administration.
However, it is his latest calculated move in the Rift Valley region—traditionally considered President Ruto’s political stronghold—that has ignited intense nationwide debate.
According to video footage circulating widely online, the former Deputy President scheduled a high-profile visit to the constituency of the late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Honorable Johanna Ng’eno.

During the visit, Gachagua booked a personal appointment with the late legislator’s mother, a gesture that carries deep cultural and political significance in the region.
Taking his campaign directly into President Ruto’s backyard, Gachagua used the visit to pitch his political agenda to the local community.
The development has left analysts and citizens surprised, particularly given the recent local electoral dynamics.
In the area’s subsequent parliamentary by-election, a anti-government wave managed to secure approximately ten thousand votes in Emurua Dikirr—a result that sent shockwaves through the political establishment and signalled shifting allegiances in a region once viewed as solidly behind the President.
Political commentators view Gachagua’s deliberate engagement with local leaders and respected family figures in the Rift Valley as a strategic attempt to chip away at President Ruto’s support base.
By directly engaging voters on their home ground, the former Deputy President is demonstrating that he intends to mount an aggressive and uncompromising nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
