Gachagua Writes to IG Kanja Demanding Security Assurance Ahead of Emurua Dikirr Visit
Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has written an official letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, demanding security guarantees and protection ahead of his scheduled visit to Emurua Dikirr Constituency.
In the letter, dated August 20, 2026, the former second-in-command formally notified the National Police Service chief of his intent to visit Narok County on August 21, 2026.
The visit follows an invitation by the DCP candidate, Hon. Vincent Rotich, for a thanksgiving occasion following a previous parliamentary contest.
Security Threats and Allegations
Gachagua expressed serious concerns over alleged threats directed at him and his entourage.
He highlighted that videos circulating online, alongside reports from both mainstream and social media, depict threats issued by current Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, David Kipsang Keter, warning him against setting foot in the area.
The DCP leader further alleged that high-ranking government officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, have financed efforts to mobilize groups and non-uniformed officers to cause chaos during his visit.
Gachagua referenced recent political violence in Homa Bay, alleging that plans were underway to replicate similar disruptions in Emurua Dikirr.
Demands for Accountability
Calling out the National Police Service’s handling of security matters, Gachagua reminded Inspector General Kanja of his constitutional oath to safeguard human life and property for all citizens. He emphasized his fundamental right as a Kenyan citizen to travel freely to any part of the country.

The former Deputy President accused the police leadership of abdicating its command to political interests, citing earlier instances—such as evidence presented during his visit to the IG’s office on January 30, 2026—where no concrete action was taken regarding alleged political attacks.
Gachagua concluded his communication by putting three explicit questions to the Inspector General:
- Whether the police leadership can assure the nation of the safety of Gachagua, his entourage, and the residents of Emurua Dikirr on August 21, 2026.
- Whether the Inspector General is fully aware of the planned gathering in Emurua Dikirr.
- What specific security measures have been deployed by the National Police Service to protect lives and property in the constituency during the event.
The National Police Service has yet to issue an official statement addressing the specific demands raised in the letter.
Here is his latter.
