The acting inspector general of Police has been sentenced to six months in prison. High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi has sentenced acting IG Masengeli after he failed to obey court orders seven times.
Mr. Masengeli failed to appear at court in person to answer about the disappearance of youths in Kitengela. The youths were allegedly abducted by police officers for taking part in anti-government protests that rocked the country.
The families of those youths have been crying for help from the government of Kenya. Lawyers defending Masengeli claimed that he was on official duties when ordered to appear in court and explain what happened.
” Acting IG Gilbert Masengeli sentenced to six months imprisonment Justice Lawrence Mugambi: He is ordered to surrender himself to the Commissioner General of Prisons to serve his sentence. In the event he fails to surrender himself to prison, the CS for Interior must take steps to ensure he is committed to prison to serve his sentence” Read report.
