Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has sparked fresh debate within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after making explosive remarks about Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his relationship with the late party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking to the media, Oburu revealed that Raila had grown increasingly frustrated with Sifuna’s conduct, particularly his tendency to challenge party leadership publicly.
According to Oburu, such actions did not sit well with the veteran opposition figure, who preferred internal mechanisms for resolving disputes.
“I don’t want to curse Sifuna,” Oburu said, in remarks captured in a widely circulated image dated April 19, 2026. “Raila was not happy with what Sifuna was doing.

He had embarrassed Raila, and Raila was fed up with him to the neck. I would advise Sifuna to calm down. I love him as a young man coming up.”
The Siaya Senator further alleged that Raila had, at some point, contemplated removing Sifuna from his influential position within the party due to the growing tensions.
These revelations have triggered mixed reactions among ODM supporters, with some defending Sifuna’s outspoken style while others backing Oburu’s call for discipline and unity.
Sifuna, known for his bold communication and sharp criticism of political opponents, has often positioned himself as a key voice within ODM, especially among younger supporters. However, his approach has occasionally put him at odds with senior party figures.
Political analysts note that Oburu’s statements could signal underlying divisions within ODM as it seeks to reorganize following Raila’s absence. The remarks also raise questions about the party’s future leadership direction and how internal dissent will be managed moving forward.
As the debate continues, Kenyans are keenly watching how Sifuna and other ODM leaders will respond to Oburu’s claims, which have once again brought internal party dynamics into the national spotlight.
