A fresh political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Oburu Odinga publicly disclosed what transpired behind the scenes following an alleged embarrassing incident involving Raila Odinga in Kakamega County.
Speaking during a recent interview, Oburu Odinga claimed that tensions within the party escalated after Edwin Sifuna reportedly used a public platform in Kakamega to criticize the broad-based government arrangement.
According to Oburu, the situation quickly turned chaotic when a group of youths allegedly heckled Raila Odinga, creating what he described as a humiliating moment for the veteran leader.
Oburu revealed that the incident deeply angered Raila, who felt cornered and disrespected in a region considered one of his strongholds. He further alleged that there were plans to take disciplinary action against Sifuna, accusing him of fueling division within the party at a critical time when unity was needed.

“I personally called Sifuna immediately after the incident and confronted him over what had happened,” Oburu stated. “It was unacceptable for such a situation to occur under his watch.”
The remarks have reignited debate within ODM, with supporters divided over who should bear responsibility for the Kakamega incident.
While some leaders have defended Sifuna, arguing that he was exercising his democratic right to speak, others believe his actions may have undermined party cohesion.
Oburu also suggested that Raila’s passing came before he could implement intended changes within the party leadership, leaving unresolved tensions that continue to surface.
The revelations are likely to intensify ongoing internal wrangles within ODM, as the party struggles to maintain unity ahead of future political engagements.
