Learners transitioning to senior secondary education in Kiharu are set to benefit from a new initiative aimed at easing the burden on parents and guardians.

As schools prepare to welcome a new cohort, education stakeholders in the constituency say the programme is designed to ensure learners settle into school without unnecessary disruption.

The programme targets learners joining Grade 10 in 20 selected secondary schools across Kiharu Constituency. Under the initiative, all eligible students in these schools school uniforms at no cost.

This  move leaders say will guarantee dignity, uniformity and equal participation among learners regardless of their family background.Education officials note that the transition to senior school often comes with increased costs that many families struggle to meet.

These challenges, they say, have previously contributed to delays in reporting, absenteeism and even dropouts during the first term.

The new intervention seeks to address these concerns by supporting learners at the very start of their academic journey.

The new intervention seeks to address these concerns by supporting learners at the very start of their academic journey.

Local leaders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely investment in education and social protection.

They argue that removing the cost of uniforms allows parents to redirect limited resources towards other essential needs such as food, transport and learning materials.

School heads have also expressed optimism that the support will enhance discipline and boost morale among learners as they transition into senior secondary education.

According to principals, uniform provision promotes a sense of belonging and helps students focus on learning rather than financial pressures at home.

Education stakeholders in Kiharu say the initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen access to education and support the Competency-Based Curriculum transition.

They have assured parents that similar programmes will continue to be explored to ensure no learner is left behind due to financial constraints.

Parents and learners are expected to benefit from the programme as schools finalize preparations ahead of the new academic term.
