Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is facing mounting pressure following an explosive interview with Citizen TV’s Yvonne Okwara that has now sparked serious political fallout within his party.
Sifuna, a vocal and outspoken figure in ODM, has recently taken a firm stand against any political arrangement that would see ODM align itself with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His remarks, which emphasized the need for ODM to remain independent and champion the struggles of ordinary Kenyans, have exposed deep divisions within the party’s top leadership.
According to Sifuna and like-minded factions within ODM, joining Ruto’s “two-term narrative” would betray the party’s core values and weaken its role as a true opposition force.

They argue that Kenyans are grappling with the high cost of living, unemployment, and punitive taxes, and that ODM must position itself as the people’s defender rather than a government ally.
However, Sifuna’s position has attracted sharp criticism from some senior party members. Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has issued a stern warning, claiming that the ODM Secretary General is actively fighting the party’s collective decisions.
Kaluma has gone as far as predicting that Sifuna will be ejected from the party and stripped of his Senate leadership position during the upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).
The outspoken MP insists that drastic action is necessary to restore discipline, cohesion, and respect within ODM. According to Kaluma, allowing internal rebellion at the top risks weakening the party ahead of critical political battles.
As the NDC approaches, all eyes are now on ODM’s leadership and the fate of Senator Sifuna. Whether the party chooses unity through dialogue or discipline through expulsion remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the internal storm rocking ODM is far from over.
