The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) continues to experience internal turbulence following the passing of its longtime leader, the late Honorable Raila Odinga. With the party now navigating a new chapter, divisions among senior leaders have increasingly come to the surface.
On January 7, 2026, ODM chairperson Oburu Odinga hosted party Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna at Chungwa House in Nairobi in an effort to address the growing tensions within the party.
A day later, Oburu also met Suna East MP Junet Mohammed to hear his side of the ongoing disagreements involving Sifuna, as he attempts to calm the simmering storm within ODM ranks.
However, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Honorable Babu Owino has now added a fresh twist to the unfolding drama.

In a bold statement shared on his official verified social media platforms, Owino publicly challenged Oburu Odinga to convene a National Delegates Convention (NDC), calling for a complete takeover of the party leadership by youthful leaders.
According to Babu Owino, ODM must embrace generational change and allow young leaders to occupy key decision-making positions if the party is to remain relevant nationally.
His remarks came shortly after attending a meeting with Senator Edwin Sifuna and other ODM leaders in Nairobi, where they reportedly held discussions on the future of the party in the post–Raila Odinga era.
Owino’s declaration presents yet another headache for Oburu Odinga as efforts to restore unity within ODM continue.
