Today on Friday, May 9, 2025. The court of appeal in Kenya elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans after its rulling on the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The appellate court ruled that DCJ Philomena Mwilu erred in constituting a bench to dismiss Rigathi Gachagua’s case challenging his impeachment. The court ordered that CJ Martha Koome empanel a bench to determine the case.
Well, after the ruling, many political commentators reacted differently. Nelson Havi, a renown legal expert claimed that Kenya has two Deputy Presidents as per the ruling.
“In effect, the order by the three Judges discharging the orders by single Judges (Chacha Mwita & Richard Mwongo) stopping the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua are null and void ab initio. In that case, we have two Deputy Presidents. That is what the Court of Appeal has said.” Posted Havi.
