NAIROBI, Kenya — Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has swiftly turned public criticism into praise following his latest community empowerment initiative, just days after facing severe backlash from a section of Kenyans.
The vocal lawmaker found himself on the receiving end of public anger after failing to participate in the high-stakes vote on the controversial Finance Bill. Critics heavily bashed the MP for his absence during the crucial parliamentary session.
In his defense, Nyoro clarified that tactical legislative strategy guided his absence, maintaining that his stance remains firmly independent of government-driven economic policies that burden citizens.
However, the political tide turned dramatically after a video surfaced online showing Nyoro distributing bursary cheques worth millions of shillings to residents within his jurisdiction.

The funds, mobilized under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), are explicitly earmarked to cover secondary school, college, and university tuition fees for thousands of needy students in Kiharu.
The video quickly went viral, prompting widespread praise from Kenyans who commended the MP for his consistent focus on human capital development.
Local residents and social media observers lauded Nyoro’s hands-on approach to grassroots development, highlighting his track record of renovating local school infrastructure, equipping laboratories, and delivering bursaries efficiently.
The latest development highlights the complex relationship between Kenyan lawmakers and their constituents, where tangible, localized development projects often serve as a powerful buffer against national political fallout.
For Nyoro, prioritizing the educational needs of his constituency has once again reinforced his reputation as a grassroots-oriented leader, successfully shifting the public narrative back in his favor.
