Unexpected Ally: Governor Irungu Kang’ata Joins Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Tour in Keroka
KISII, KENYA — Nairobi Senator and embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, has sent shockwaves through the political landscape after an unexpected guest joined his high-stakes Linda Mwananchi tour in the Gusii region.
A video rapidly circulating online shows Murang’a County Governor, His Excellency Irungu Kang’ata, making a grand, high-spirited appearance alongside Sifuna as the popular movement pitched camp in Keroka Town, Kisii County.
Kang’ata was seen enthusiastically flashing the movement’s signature ‘Wantam’ symbol, cementing his alignment with the political wave sweeping across the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
The stunning crossover comes weeks after Kang’ata publicly ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing the government’s diminishing popularity.

His sudden presence in the Kisii rallies alongside Sifuna has left many Kenyans on social media celebrating the milestone, praising the Nairobi Senator’s formidable political acumen and strategic foresight.
“Sifuna is proving to be a master strategist. Convincing a high-ranking Kenya Kwanza governor to defect and join a grassroots movement like Linda Mwananchi is no small feat,” noted one political analyst on X (formerly Twitter).
Since the passing of long-standing ODM leader Raila Odinga, Sifuna has faced immense internal friction from within the party. However, he has stood firm, asserting that he will not be intimidated by internal detractors.
Instead, he birthed the Linda Mwananchi movement to champion the interests of the common mwananchi (citizen).
With heavyweights like Governor Kang’ata and former Chief Justice David Maraga associating with the outfit during its Nyanza and Gusii tours, Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi is fast transitioning from a fringe faction into a major, formidable alliance.
Kenyans are actively celebrating this new political partnership, viewing it as a fresh force ready to redefine the 2027 presidential matrix.
