NAIROBI, Kenya — Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader and presidential hopeful Dr. Fred Matiang’i has fiercely debunked viral social media rumors suggesting a political shift toward the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.
The speculation ignited after a photograph of the former Interior Cabinet Secretary alongside prominent politicians began circulating online.
Netizens quickly weaponized the image, claiming it was evidence of a clandestine, late-night strategy meeting aimed at brokering a deal between Matiang’i and President William Ruto’s political camp.
Taking to his official Facebook page to set the record straight, Dr. Matiang’i dismissed the narrative as entirely fabricated, clarifying that the photo captured nothing more than a coincidental run-in at the airport.
“This morning, after checking in at the Kenya Airways desk at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, I bumped into Kisii Governor Hon. Simba Arati and Suna East MP Hon. Junet Mohamed, who had also checked in and were travelling to Kisumu,” Matiang’i stated. “It was a chance encounter as each of us proceeded to board our flight.”

The seasoned administrator turned politician strongly rebuffed the political undertones being attached to the visual, urging the public to ignore the coordinated misinformation.
“Contrary to false claims circulating online, this was neither a meeting held last night nor a planned engagement. It was simply a chance encounter between leaders at the airport,” he added.
Far from striking alliances with government insiders, Matiang’i revealed that his itinerary was firmly rooted in opposition territory. Upon landing, the Jubilee presidential candidate proceeded to Kisumu before heading to a high-profile church service alongside key anti-government figures.
“I then proceeded to Kisumu to join Siaya Governor Hon. James Orengo, People’s Liberation Party Leader Hon. Martha Karua, and the faithful for a church service at Apondo SDA Church in Ahero,” Matiang’i concluded.
The swift clarification comes at a time of heightened political anxiety in Kenya, where casual interactions between rival leaders are frequently scrutinized for signs of shifting alignments.
By visibly aligning himself with stalwart opposition leaders like Martha Karua and James Orengo immediately after the incident, Matiang’i has signaled that his resolve to seek the presidency on a Jubilee ticket remains completely uncompromised.
