Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sparked fresh political debate after sharply criticizing President William Ruto during a DCP party function held in Kajiado County.
The event, attended by several opposition-aligned leaders, became a platform for renewed scrutiny of government infrastructure projects, particularly the proposed railway extension to Kisumu.
Gachagua, who was accompanied by close allies including Senator Cleophas Malala, Eugene Wamalwa, and Senator Seki, directly challenged President Ruto to publicly release the contracts and budget details of the railway project.
He argued that transparency was necessary to verify whether the project is properly funded and legitimately planned.

Speaking to supporters, Gachagua alleged that there was no clear budget allocation for the railway extension, claiming that residents of the Luo region were being misled about the project’s progress.
He further dared President Ruto to table the relevant documents by Monday, insisting that failure to do so would confirm his suspicions of misinformation surrounding the project.
His remarks immediately ignited reactions across the political divide, with supporters praising his call for accountability while critics accused him of politicizing development projects.
The leaders present echoed similar sentiments, urging the government to prioritize transparency in all major infrastructure initiatives.
The Kisumu railway project has been a key talking point in recent national development discussions, with the government previously indicating plans to expand transport connectivity in the Lake Region Economic Bloc.
However, questions about funding, timelines, and contractual details have continued to surface from opposition leaders.
As political temperatures rise, Gachagua’s latest remarks are expected to intensify scrutiny on the administration’s development agenda. Whether the government will respond to his demands for documentation remains a key question in the unfolding political discourse.
