Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has come under fire from a section of Kenyans online after a photo he posted sparked political backlash amid ongoing power supply concerns.
In the image shared on his social media accounts, Wandayi was seen wearing a hoodie branded “Ruto Two Term,” a gesture interpreted by critics as open political campaigning for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
The post quickly attracted mixed reactions, with supporters defending it as freedom of expression, while critics accused him of neglecting his ministerial duties at a time when many parts of the country are experiencing intermittent power blackouts.
Some users argued that the Energy docket should prioritize stabilizing electricity supply and reducing outages instead of engaging in political messaging.
