Tension Soars as Gachagua Seen Under Heavy Security Following MP Kaguchia’s Arrest
NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was spotted leaving the Nanyuki Sports Club surrounded by a massive security detail, just hours after Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was taken into police custody.
The dramatic sequence of events began late Sunday night when MP Kaguchia sought refuge inside the Royal Media Services (RMS) headquarters following an appearance on Inooro TV.
The legislator spent the night inside the station after dozens of heavily armed, hooded officers and several unmarked vehicles surrounded the premises.
By Monday morning, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) moved in and arrested Kaguchia outside the studios, escorting him to DCI headquarters for questioning.
The arrest stems from alleged inflammatory political utterances made during a recent rally in Kieni, Nyeri County.
Shortly after the standoff in Nairobi concluded, video footage surfaced online showing Gachagua exiting Nanyuki Sports Club accompanied by a heavily reinforced security team.

Speaking on the incident, Gachagua strongly condemned the police operation at the media house, framing Kaguchia’s arrest as part of a targeted campaign of political persecution.
“This is a clear misuse of investigative agencies to settle political scores and intimidate leaders,” Gachagua stated regarding the arrest.
The dual events have sparked intense political debate, highlighting growing friction between government authorities and opposition-aligned leaders.
