NAIROBI, Kenya — Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia has set social media ablaze following a defiant appearance in court just hours after his high-profile arrest by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers.
In a clip that rapidly went viral across social platforms, the vibrant legislator was captured inside the courtroom raising a single index finger—a gesture widely associated with the opposition’s political rallying cry calling for a “one term” administration for President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Overnight Standoff at Royal Media Services
The court appearance comes on the heels of a dramatic overnight standoff at the Royal Media Services (RMS) studios along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi.

- The Siege: Following his appearance on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi show, Kaguchia sought refuge inside the facility after heavily armed officers surrounded the premises and mounted roadblocks outside.
- The Arrest: Determined detectives maintained a presence throughout the night before taking the MP into custody as he exited the premises.
“An arrest done by hooded, masked armed men… is definitely something which is suspect. I refused to walk into that trap,” Kaguchia stated prior to his detention.
Incitement Charges and Political Fallout
Authorities claim the lawmaker’s arrest is linked to alleged inciteful and inflammatory political remarks made during a recent public rally in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County.
Prosecutors allege that Kaguchia has been actively attempting to incite residents of the populous Central Kenya region against the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 polls.
Kaguchia has maintained his innocence, arguing that his political utterances were twisted by government strategists and should fall under the purview of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) rather than criminal prosecution.
His defiant courtroom gesture has further escalated political tensions between Mt. Kenya leaders and the ruling coalition.
