Kenyans are still coming to terms with the passing of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga — a towering figure whose influence shaped Kenya’s political direction for decades. His leadership and charisma united millions, particularly across the Nyanza, Western, Coastal, and Nairobi regions.
Even as the nation continues to mourn Baba’s death, a new wave of grief has swept across social media after the sudden demise of a popular Mombasa-based TikToker and staunch Raila supporter, Mariam Antonet Lwande, popularly known as Digda.
According to reports, Digda passed away just three days after posting an emotional video of herself mourning Raila Odinga at his mural in Mombasa.
In the widely shared clip, she stood solemnly before the late leader’s image, her hand pressed against the wall, whispering her final salute with visible emotion. Her words were heavy with grief, her voice trembling as she spoke to Baba’s spirit.

Shockingly, Digda died only three hours after uploading her final TikTok video, which showed her happily cooking food — a post that now feels hauntingly symbolic to her followers.
A witness who was with her during the mural visit recalled her saying, “Mwanangu, nampenda sana Raila Odinga na naona nikimfwata karibuni.” The statement, once dismissed as an emotional expression, now feels prophetic to many.
Her sudden death has left thousands of fans and Kenyans at large stunned. Tributes continue to flood her comment sections, describing her as “a cheerful soul, a true believer in Baba’s vision, and a digital foot soldier who loved deeply and lived passionately.”
Some mourners have called her passing “a mystery wrapped in devotion”, suggesting that perhaps her spirit answered a higher call. As one comment poignantly put it, “She mourned a hero and became part of his story.”
As the country continues to grieve both Raila Odinga and now Digda, many are left reflecting on the unexplainable ties of loyalty, love, and destiny.
