Drama unfolded during a funeral service after Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Hon. Rigathi Gachagua openly lectured a sitting governor, warning him of political consequences if he fails to join the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua, who has intensified efforts to popularize DCP as the dominant political vehicle in the Mount Kenya region, used the public gathering to reinforce his message of regional political unity.
Since the formation of the party, he and his allies have been urging voters to reject leaders who do not seek elective seats under the DCP banner.
In remarks captured on video, Gachagua turned his attention to Nyandarua Governor Badilisha, whom he described as a “good man” deserving of respect.

However, he cautioned that personal goodwill would not be enough to secure political survival if the governor chose a different political path.
According to Gachagua, the people of Nyandarua would “send him home” if he failed to align himself with DCP in 2027.
The remarks drew mixed reactions from mourners, with some cheering while others appeared visibly uncomfortable with the political turn at a solemn event.
The incident highlights the growing pressure being exerted on Mount Kenya leaders as the 2027 elections draw closer, signaling intensifying competition and realignment within the region’s political landscape.
