Uhuru Suffers Another Blow After Losing Ol-Kalou Seat As Another MP Dumps Jubilee, Joins DCP
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta might need to go back to the drawing board and make sweeping changes within his political outfit before it is too late.
In the recently concluded Ol-Kalou Constituency by-election, Uhuru’s Jubilee Party candidate suffered a humiliating defeat, failing to secure even a thousand votes.
The party’s candidate, Wilson Kigwa, managed a meager 198 votes out of over 41,000 cast, leaving political commentators and Kenyans shocked at the rapid decline of the once-massive ruling party.

The mini-poll was won in a landslide victory by Sammy Kamau Ngotho of the rising Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Just hours after suffering that devastating electoral blow, the former President’s political headache worsened. Starehe Member of Parliament, Honorable Amos Mwago Maina—who was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket—officially dumped the party and defected to the DCP.
Taking to his official social media platforms, Hon. Mwago announced his departure from Jubilee and confidently declared that he will be defending his parliamentary seat on the DCP party ticket in the upcoming 2027 general election.
Defending his move, the Starehe legislator maintained that Jubilee has lost its grip and traction on the ground. He further asserted that DCP has now emerged as the official and most viable political party for progressive leaders and citizens to join going forward.
Political analysts view this wave of defections and poor by-election turnouts as a significant existential threat to Uhuru Kenyatta’s political influence in the region. With key allies actively fleeing to the DCP, the former ruling party faces a daunting task to restrategize if it hopes to remain relevant ahead of the 2027 polls.
