Video: Oburu Odinga Finally Speaks After Gachagua-Backed Candidate Wins Ol-Kalou By-Election
OL-KALOU, KENYA — Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Dr. Oburu Odinga has finally broken his silence after a wave of calls from Kenyans urging him to congratulate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following a resounding victory in the Ol-Kalou parliamentary mini-poll.
The high-stakes by-election, widely seen as a litmus test for Mt. Kenya supremacy, ended in a major political upset. Sammy Kamau Ngotho of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP)—openly endorsed by Rigathi Gachagua—clinched the seat by flooring the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate aligned with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Responding to mounting pressure from citizens online and on the ground, Dr. Oburu Odinga issued a direct, unvarnished reaction. In a video addressing the matter, Oburu made it clear that he will not extend his congratulations to the former Deputy President.

“I will not congratulate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for winning an election when all the time he is always angry and fighting people who are not even fighting him,” Oburu declared.
According to Oburu, Gachagua’s combative approach to politics continues to alienate potential allies, regardless of his localized electoral triumphs.
The veteran politician added a piece of advice for the former second-in-command, stating that Gachagua needs to change his political attitude if he expects broader national recognition.
Oburu noted that Gachagua must learn how to foster real teamwork, stating that the former DP should now start working amicably with people if he wants the rest of the nation to truly appreciate and respect him.
The Ol-Kalou results have undoubtedly sent shockwaves through the ruling coalition, but for leaders like Oburu, a win on paper does not excuse a divisive political posture.
