Chants of “Tunataka Sifuna” Disrupt Kalonzo Musyoka’s Tour in Busia

Former Vice President His Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka faced an unexpected turn of events today during his high-profile tour of Busia County, as rowdy crowds demanding the presence of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna temporarily forced him to interrupt his speech.

The Wiper Party leader had pitched camp in the border region alongside key allies, including DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa and former Attorney-General Justin Muturi.

However, the absence of local leaders was conspicuous, with all elected Members of Parliament from the Western Kenya region missing from the opposition chief’s entourage.

The day’s main drama unfolded at Nambale, where Kalonzo had stopped to address a gathering of residents.

As he took the microphone to articulate his political roadmap, a section of the energetic crowd began interrupting him with rhythmic chants of “Tunataka Sifuna! Tunataka Sifuna!” (We want Sifuna!).

The vocal crowd demanded to know why Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, a prominent native son of Western Kenya, was not part of the opposition delegation visiting the region.

The persistent noise forced the former Vice President to pause his address as his team attempted to restore calm and reassure the crowd.

The awkward disruption highlights the complex regional politics playing out as national leaders attempt to consolidate political bases across Western Kenya.

Sifuna’s growing political influence in the region proved to be a central topic among locals, who insisted that high-level visits to the area ought to involve key local representatives.

Despite the brief commotion, Kalonzo eventually managed to regain control of the podium, urging unity and promising to address the socio-economic issues affecting Busia residents as he concluded his western tour.
