Raila Odinga addressed the recent appointments of members from his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to various government positions by President William Ruto.
Odinga acknowledged the appointments but reiterated that his party has not officially joined the government.
Odinga’s statement followed the announcement that John Mbadi, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, Ali Hasan Joho, and Wycliffe Oparanya have been appointed to key positions within President Ruto’s administration.
While Odinga extended his best wishes to those appointed, he was clear about the ODM party’s stance on engaging with the government.
Odinga emphasized that the ODM party’s official position remains firm: the government must first address and fulfill certain conditions before any formal engagement can take place.
The primary condition outlined by Odinga is the compensation of families who lost loved ones during the Gen Z demonstrations, among other issues.
The ODM leader’s comments underscore ongoing tensions between his party and the current administration.
Despite the appointments of party members, Odinga stressed that these moves do not signify an official partnership or alliance with the government.
The party continues to demand the fulfillment of its conditions as a prerequisite for any deeper collaboration.
The response from Odinga indicates that while individual ODM members may take up roles within the government, the party as a whole maintains its position of scrutiny and demands for justice and accountability from the current administration.
