Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has broken his silence following a high-profile meeting between Oburu Odinga and President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, issuing fresh demands that could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The consultative meeting between Oburu and Ruto comes at a sensitive time, just days after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) announced it had halted negotiations with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing frustrations over unmet expectations.
The new developments now suggest possible renewed engagement between the two political factions.
In a strongly worded statement shared عبر his social media platforms, Kaluma outlined conditions under which ODM would consider entering into a pre-election coalition with UDA. Central to his demands is the insistence that ODM must secure the Deputy President position if it agrees to support a presidential candidate from UDA.

Kaluma emphasized that any coalition between ODM and UDA must be structured to field a single candidate across all elective positions, from the presidency down to Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
He further proposed a zoning arrangement based on regional party strength and popularity, though he maintained that Homa Bay County should remain an ODM stronghold.
“The ODM Party – UDA Kenya pre-election coalition will be formed to capture power in 2027,” Kaluma stated, adding that the agreement must be anchored on shared governance principles such as devolution, human rights, equity, inclusion, accountability, and national unity.
He also stressed the importance of equitable sharing of national resources and public service opportunities across all regions. “We in the ODM Party will accept no less than the Deputy President if we let go the President,” Kaluma declared.
His remarks are likely to spark fresh debate within political circles as realignments ahead of 2027 continue to take shape.
