A joint consultative meeting between Kenya’s ruling party and the opposition has yielded a significant step toward political cooperation, following talks held at State House in Nairobi.
In a statement released after the meeting, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) confirmed that they had agreed to strengthen collaboration and explore areas of mutual interest for the benefit of the country.
The meeting was hosted by William Ruto and attended by an ODM delegation led by Oburu Odinga. According to the joint statement dated April 23, 2026, the two parties resolved to establish a structured framework for continued engagement through regular consultations across party organs.
A key outcome of the discussions was the agreement to form a broad-based management committee. This committee will comprise party leaders, selected Cabinet Ministers, as well as Majority and Minority leaders in Parliament. Its primary role will be coordinating and synchronizing legislative and executive agendas to ensure coherence, efficiency, and effective service delivery.

The statement further noted that the ongoing engagements are aimed at building consensus on priority national issues while laying the groundwork for a possible formal coalition between the two parties—described as a coalition of equals.
Additionally, the committee will be tasked with addressing concerns raised by ODM and ensuring alignment in governance approaches. Both parties emphasized that the initiative is intended to enhance unity of purpose and promote inclusive governance.
In reaffirming their commitment, UDA and ODM leaders stated that they are dedicated to constructive dialogue and a shared national vision. They expressed optimism that the collaboration would accelerate development and strengthen democratic processes across the country.
The joint declaration marks a notable shift in Kenya’s political landscape, signaling a willingness among key players to work together in addressing national challenges.
