No Rest for the Driven: Babu Owino and James Orengo Head to Court Barely Hours After Bungoma Rally
KISUMU, KENYA — Showing zero signs of exhaustion, Siaya County Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino made a dramatic appearance at the Kisumu High Court to defend supporters arrested following a recent political standoff.
The court date comes barely a day after the dynamic duo pulled massive crowds during the Linda Mwananchi Initiative rallies in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties.
The leaders traveled directly from their intensive political engagements to stand in solidarity with team members and local youth who were detained by security officers.
The arrests stem from alleged altercations during a church service held as part of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s grassroots circuit in Kisumu.
Taking to his official social media platforms, Babu Owino confirmed his presence in court alongside Senior Counsel Orengo.

He firmly maintained that the jailed supporters are innocent, claiming they are targets of trumped-up charges intended to intimidate the growing popular movement.
“We are here to ensure justice is served. Our supporters are completely innocent, and we will not rest until every single one of them is free,” Owino stated outside the courtroom.
Governor Orengo, a veteran human rights lawyer, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that political intimidation through state organs will not silence the public’s voice.
He reiterated that the Linda Mwananchi initiative remains committed to defending civil rights both on political platforms and inside courtrooms.
The swift transition from the high-energy political stage in Bungoma straight into legal battle lines highlights the intensity of the duo’s campaign.
