Gachagua Blacklists Two Ruto Allies From Joining DCP Party
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strictly barred two key Mount Kenya lawmakers from joining his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking during an interview with Meru region radio stations, Gachagua named Murang’a County Woman Representative Betty Maina and her husband, Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi, as non-grata figures within the party.
The declaration comes shortly after the DCP secured a significant political victory over the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration in the Ol Kalou parliamentary mini-polls, where candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho won decisively.
According to Gachagua, who assumed the leadership of the DCP following his impeachment from the Kenya Kwanza administration, Maina and Wamumbi allegedly coordinated goons and rogue police squads to disrupt voting and incite violence during the heated Ol Kalou by-election.
“We cannot entertain leaders who turn against their own people under state instructions,” Gachagua stated, accusing the couple of betraying the local community to serve executive interests.

However, Betty Maina dismissed Gachagua’s blacklist, insisting she has zero interest in joining any political movement associated with the former Deputy President. Maina defended her track record and accused Gachagua of engaging in divisive politics and sensational rhetoric to settle political scores.
The publicly traded accusations highlight the widening rift within Mount Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With the DCP positioning itself as a primary opposition outfit in the region, the confrontation signals an escalating power struggle between Gachagua’s newly formed movement and President William Ruto’s remaining allies.
