Tension Escalates in Homa Bay as Goons Attack Sifuna’s Convoy; MP Kaluma Defends Stance
HOMA BAY, KENYA — Political tensions surged in Homa Bay County following violent encounters where armed goons intercepted and pelted the Linda Mwanainchi team’s convoy with stones, forcing opposition leaders to alter their routes repeatedly.
The convoy, carrying key opposition figures including Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna, encountered hostility while attempting to enter Homa Bay town for a scheduled political rally.
Video clips circulating online depict chaotic scenes as youth brandishing crude weapons barricaded roads, threw projectiles, and redirected vehicles away from primary thoroughfares.

Breaking his silence over the altercations, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma dismissed the opposition’s presence, maintaining that the region stands firmly behind President William Ruto’s administration.
In a statement shared online, Kaluma asserted that the county prioritizes tangible development initiatives over political rallies.
“Homa Bay is trending today. Let the media show the world what President Ruto has done in this part of Kenya which past presidents neglected. We don’t eat empty slogans in Homa Bay,” Kaluma stated. “We are supporting President Ruto because of his policy of inclusion and equity in public service and development.”
Kaluma concluded his message signaling support for local governance and the national leadership with his signature line: “President Ruto Wanga Kaluma .”
The incidents have reignited debate over political tolerance, safety, and assembly rights ahead of future electoral cycles. Opposition figures condemned the hostiles, demanding law enforcement step up to safeguard freedom of movement and public gatherings across all counties.
