DRAMA IN HOMA BAY: Sifuna, Orengo Flee Goon Attack, Seek Refuge at MP’s Home
Tension ran high in Homa Bay County after a team of prominent political leaders, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo, was ambushed by an armed gang while en route to a planned political rally.
The high-profile group, operating under the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative, spent over three hours attempting to gain access to the venue before their convoy was violently blockaded.
Witnesses reported that rowdy youths, armed with crude weapons and pelting heavy stones, intercepted the motorcade, forcing the leaders’ security detail to react swiftly.
Viral video footage circulating across social media platforms captures the chaotic moment Sifuna and his team scrambled for safety as the attack intensified.
To escape the escalating violence, the convoy redirected and sought refuge at the residence of Suba South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi.

The video footage, which has sparked intense debate among Kenyans online, shows a visibly shaken yet resolute group regrouping inside the compound.
Rather than canceling the engagement, Sifuna took advantage of the secure location to address a crowd of local supporters who had gathered outside the MP’s gates.
Speaking from the compound, the leaders condemned the violence, blaming political rivals for hired intimidation tactics aimed at suppressing their freedom of assembly.
Sifuna reassured supporters that the “Linda Mwananchi” movement would not be intimidated by political goons, emphasizing their commitment to championing public interests across the region regardless of organized resistance.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions online, with many citizens expressing concern over rising political intolerance and the use of violence to disrupt peaceful public gatherings. Police have yet to confirm if any arrests have been made regarding the ambush.
