DRAMA IN LONDON: How Former DP Rigathi Gachagua Was Blocked from UK Diaspora Event Over Alleged £20,000 Demand
LONDON, United Kingdom — Fresh details have emerged explaining why former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his entourage were blocked from attending the highly publicized Wendo UK Festival in England.
The reveals come amid Gachagua’s ongoing high-profile tour of the United Kingdom to popularize his new political outfit, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While the former DP has enjoyed warm receptions in cities like Swindon and Peterborough, his scheduled appearance at the Wendo cultural festival ended in a dramatic standoff behind the scenes.
The Cash Demand and the Secret Standoff
According to a full disclosure by Lucy Kihara, the Executive Director of the DCP UK Chapter, the fallout stemmed from a purely “transactional” disagreement with the event’s chief organizer, Mukami Njindo-Kimani.
Kihara revealed that negotiations began in mid-February when organizers initially reached out to explore the possibility of Gachagua addressing the Kenyan diaspora gathering.
However, the talks quickly deteriorated when the organizers reportedly demanded a hefty financial compromise to allow the politician onto the stage.

“During the conversation, she stated that if the ‘right amount of money’ was paid, then she could compromise and allow His Excellency to attend and address the gathering,” Kihara stated. “When I asked what amount she was referring to, she asked for a figure between £15,000 and £20,000 (approximately KSh 2.5 million to KSh 3.4 million).”
The DCP secretariat flatly rejected the demand, maintaining that public figures should not pay to address their own community. Instead, Gachagua’s team offered to handle standard VVIP logistical obligations, including security coordination, protocol arrangements, and essential high-level hospitality.
Relegated to an “Ordinary Guest”
Following the standoff, the event organizers allegedly stripped Gachagua of any state-stature recognition. Kihara noted that Mukami gave an ultimatum: if no money was paid, the former Deputy President could only access the venue by purchasing a standard £30 ticket.
Furthermore, he would receive no official acknowledgment, no VVIP seating, and no opportunity to greet the crowd.
As the festival kicked off, a domestic delegate—identified as lawyer Fanya Mambo Kinuthia—attempted to salvage the situation and iron out protocol hitches, but met a brick wall.
Last-Minute Threat of Embarrassment
The situation escalated to a boiling point on the day of the event. An advance security team deployed by the former DP arrived at the venue only to be informed by ground managers that Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, would be denied entry altogether. Organizers cited sudden “health and safety” concerns as the official reason for the lockout.
To save the former second-in-command from public humiliation, his security details and drivers were instructed to abort the journey to the venue immediately.
The organizers of the Wendo Festival have yet to issue an official press statement regarding the heavy allegations, but insiders note they will be granted a right of reply to share their side of the story.
