Just In: Vocal ODM Party Leader Dumps Party, Joins DCP
NAIROBI, Kenya — Political realignments across Kenya continue to gather momentum as leaders strategically position themselves ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
In a significant blow to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Ewuaso Oonkindongi Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Joseph Ole Torris, has officially dumped the opposition party to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The defection was formally confirmed by former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua, who officially welcomed the civic leader into the growing political outfit.
A Shift Driven by the Electorate
Receiving Hon. Ole Torris, Gachagua noted that the MCA’s decision reflected the grassroots demands of his constituents in Kajiado County.

“I am delighted to receive the Ewuaso Oonkindongi MCA, Hon. Joseph Ole Torris, into our party, DCP. He was elected on an ODM ticket, but he has obeyed the wishes of his people to defend his seat on a DCP ticket in August 2027,” stated Gachagua.
Gachagua framed the move as part of a broader political shift, positioning the DCP as a transformative vehicle for marginalized regions, particularly the Maa Nation.
“DCP is the party of the moment and the future, and it has been accepted as the party that will transform the Maa Nation and Kenya at large. The party will deliberately integrate the community, which has been marginalized since independence, into the mainstream government and spur development through affirmative interventions. The future is Green,” Gachagua added.
2027 Realignments Take Shape
As incumbent leaders and aspirants formulate winning strategies for the upcoming election cycle, political analyst views this defection as evidence of shifting ground dynamics.
The move highlights DCP’s expanding footprint beyond its traditional strongholds into strategic regions across the country.
