Kalonzo Dismisses Claims of Uhuru Steering 2027 Opposition Strategy
EMBU, Kenya — Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has refuted reports suggesting that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is orchestrating the opposition’s political strategy to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a service at the ACK Cathedral in Embu, Kalonzo clarified that opposition figures are independently driving their political plans. He cautioned against portraying Kenyatta as the mastermind behind a campaign against the current administration.
“Do not paint a picture that Uhuru is organising us to face Ruto. We are organising ourselves to face Ruto and nobody will do it for us,” Kalonzo said.
The former Vice President addressed speculation regarding an upcoming coalition meeting convened by Kenyatta, emphasizing that Kenyatta’s involvement stems strictly from his position as the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Council chair.

According to Kalonzo, the session is intended to strengthen the coalition’s internal structures rather than map out election battlelines.
“The meeting Uhuru chairs on Monday is just about moving Azimio forward and not arranging how to tackle Ruto,” Kalonzo stated.
“Do not make Ruto panic that Uhuru is plotting against him. He is just there to make sure Azimio as a political organisation moves to the next level and brings everybody on board.”
Reiterating his position, Kalonzo maintained that opposition leaders remain firmly in charge of their direction.
He ruled out working with President Ruto’s administration and called on like-minded political leaders to build a cohesive movement capable of providing an alternative leadership vision for the country.
As political activity heightens across the country, the Azimio coalition continues to reorganize its ranks ahead of the 2027 polls.
