Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a stern warning to politicians he accused of using his name for political survival, distancing himself from claims that he is secretly financing divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Uhuru’s remarks come amid rising political tension following allegations that he is backing ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to destabilize the party and push it out of the broad-based government.
Speaking earlier, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed claimed that the former Head of State had allegedly promised more than one billion shillings to individuals seeking to lure ODM into joining the United Opposition.
However, while speaking at the funeral of his longtime friend and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, Uhuru strongly dismissed the accusations, terming them misleading and irresponsible.
In an unusually firm tone, the retired president said he would not allow anyone to misuse his name to advance personal or factional political interests.

“I may be retired from active politics, but I will not allow people to use my name for political survival,” Uhuru said, drawing applause from mourners.
He maintained that he has no role in the internal wrangles rocking ODM and has not funded any political schemes aimed at destabilizing the party.
Uhuru emphasized that his focus since leaving office has been on promoting peace, national unity, and democratic values rather than engaging in behind-the-scenes political battles.
He noted that Kenya’s democracy can only thrive if leaders choose honesty and dialogue over propaganda and political blackmail.
The former president further urged politicians to take responsibility for their actions instead of dragging his name into ongoing power struggles.
He warned that continued attempts to link him to unproven political plots risk inflaming tensions at a time when the country needs cohesion.
Uhuru’s statement is expected to calm speculation surrounding his alleged involvement in ODM affairs, even as debates continue within political circles over the future of the broad-based government and opposition politics.
