NAIROBI, KENYA — Nairobi Senator and former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has stirred intense public debate following a passionate address delivered during the requiem mass for Mwalimu Jackson Karua, the late father of Narc-Kenya leader and former Justice Cabinet Secretary Martha Karua.
Speaking before a congregation of political leaders, dignitaries, and mourners gathered to pay their respects, Sifuna delivered a deeply reflective speech centered on selfless leadership, constitutionalism, and the generational struggle for a better Kenya.
Reflecting on the sacrifices required to build a equitable society, the outspoken senator emphasized that true public service often demands fighting for cause whose complete fruition a leader may not live to see.
“I may not reach there, but I’ll do my best,” Sifuna declared to the quiet hall. “We are going to fight for a better Kenya to an extent that even if I personally do not cross over to enjoy the fruits, our youth and future generations will celebrate these efforts to restore dignity and respect for the rule of law.”
Sifuna drew parallels between the historical liberation efforts of past icons and the current agitation by Kenyan youth—particularly Gen Z—demanding accountability, justice, and good governance.
