Farouk Kibet Moves with Speed to Save Ruto After Ol-Kalou Humiliation
NAIROBI, KENYA — In a swift and tactical political maneuver, President William Ruto’s powerful and long-serving personal aide, Farouk Kibet, has stepped out of the shadows to contain a brewing political crisis. His sudden public offensive comes just days after the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) suffered a devastating blow in the Ol-Kalou constituency by-election.
The ruling party’s candidate was soundly defeated by Sammy Douglas Ngotho of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), a result that analysts claim has severely dented the President’s political armor in the Mount Kenya region.
Known for decades as a firm, backroom strategist whose nod is required before anyone accesses the Head of State, Kibet has altered his usual underground playbook.
With UDA’s political fortunes facing friction, Kibet has camped in the Western region—a critical, volatile political battleground essential for President Ruto’s survival.

On Saturday, Kibet led a massive empowerment program in Mumias East Constituency, Kakamega County, bringing together a powerful contingent of Kenya Kwanza legislators.
The high-profile gathering at Shianda Market was aimed at consolidating the Western vote bloc in the wake of the Ol-Kalou setback.
Speaking on the initiative, Kibet underscored the government’s economic agenda:
“Economic empowerment remains one of the most effective pathways to reducing poverty, creating opportunities, and improving livelihoods within our communities. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that uplift wananchi through inclusive development.”
The event was a massive show of force, attended by a long list of influential regional leaders, including Senator David Wakoli, and Members of Parliament Tindi Mwale, Geoffrey Mulanya, Emmanuel Wangwe, and Mary Emase, among others.
Political analysts note that by deploying his most trusted fixer directly to the grassroots, President Ruto is seeking to fortify alternative strongholds and signal that his administration remains steady and focused, despite recent electoral shocks.
