OL-KALOU, Kenya — Fresh political turmoil has erupted for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership in Nyandarua County following a tense showdown in Rurii Ward, Ol-Kalou.
In a dramatic escalation of post-election animosity, local residents completely blocked their area Member of County Assembly (MCA) from accessing his home and ward over his alignment with the ruling party.
The hostile reception comes hot on the heels of a bruising Ol-Kalou by-election, where the UDA candidate suffered a decisive defeat against the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate.
Tensions boiled over when furious residents accused the pro-UDA lawmaker of backing a political faction that allegedly brought state-linked goons into the Huhoini area during the voting exercise.
Locals claim these operatives violently assaulted and killed a young man from the ward, triggering immense grief and community-wide outrage.

In a video capturing the confrontation, large crowds of demonstrators are seen blockading the roads, waving placards, and loudly demanding that the MCA leave the locality immediately.
Despite the politician’s frantic attempts to calm the crowd and explain his decision to align with President William Ruto’s government and the UDA candidate rather than the victorious DCP counterpart, the residents flatly refused to listen.
Overwhelmed by the chanting and refusing to risk further chaos, the MCA eventually conceded to the residents’ demands, boarded his vehicle, and hastily retreated from the venue.
Political analysts note that this open hostility signals deeper undercurrents of resentment toward the ruling party within the Mount Kenya region.
The incident leaves UDA leaders in Nyandarua grappling with not only a painful electoral loss but also a severe grassroots rebellion fueled by allegations of electoral violence.
Community leaders are now calling for a thorough investigation into the young man’s death to restore calm to the volatile ward.
