TAITA TAVETA, Kenya — Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence following his high-profile removal from the party’s top rank and his position as the Senate Deputy Minority Whip.
Speaking passionately during a “Linda Mwananchi” initiative drive in Taita Taveta County, a resilient Sifuna addressed a charged crowd about his political future.
The vocal lawmaker was flanked by powerful allies, including Siaya County Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, signaling strong solidarity amidst the ongoing leadership shake-up within the opposition coalition.
During the rally, Sifuna revealed that his political trajectory has taken a new, loftier direction, driven heavily by pressure from the youth. He disclosed that the younger generation is now demanding he permanently drop the “Secretary General” moniker.

Instead, they have urged him to adopt the title “His Excellency” going forward, a designation traditionally reserved for governors and presidential contenders.
According to Sifuna, this symbolic promotion by his supporters reflects his shifting focus toward a broader national agenda.
No longer confined to the day-to-day administrative duties of a single party, the senator emphasized that he is now entirely focused on fostering national unity and fighting for the rights of ordinary citizens through the Linda Mwananchi movement.
The meeting in Taita Taveta served as a definitive declaration that Sifuna’s political influence remains potent.
Despite the strategic ouster by ODM’s National Executive Committee, political analysts note that the unfolding events may instead elevate Sifuna, positioning him as a formidable national figure and a potential key player ahead of the next general election.
