‘No Retreat’: Sifuna Shocks Kenyans with Massive Turnout Days After ODM Ouster

TAITA TAVETA, Kenya — Embattled Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has sent shockwaves through the political landscape after pulling a massive crowd in Taita Taveta, barely days after being stripped of his powerful positions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the Senate leadership.

A video circulating widely online shows the defiant legislator attracting thousands of enthusiastic supporters during a rally organized by the Linda Mwananchi initiative.

The overwhelming reception has left both allies and critics stunned, contradicting expectations that his political career would collapse after losing his party privileges.

Sifuna’s dramatic political ouster unfolded after a protracted internal dispute culminated in the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) removing him as the party’s Secretary-General. Spearheaded by acting party leader Oburu Odinga, the party formally replaced Sifuna with Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties later ratified the changes.
Compounding his woes, Sifuna was subsequently stripped of his influential Senate leadership position and replaced by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch. The party also removed him from key committee assignments, including the Senate Energy Committee.

While many political analysts predicted that losing the backing of the major opposition party would derail his ambitions, the Taita Taveta rally tells a different story. Observers note that Sifuna appears to be successfully pivoting his political identity toward the grassroots Linda Mwananchi movement.

The viral “No Retreat” footage indicates that Sifuna retains a potent individual support base that transcends traditional party machinery. As Kenya’s political alignments continue to shift, the Nairobi Senator has made it clear that he remains a formidable force to reckon with on the national stage.
