Senator Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah, the Deputy Party Leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has finally broken his silence after weeks of absence from the political scene, putting to rest growing speculation about his political future.
For nearly two weeks, the usually vibrant and outspoken leader maintained a low profile, sparking intense debate among Kenyans and political observers over the shifting dynamics within the opposition.
Malalah’s silence had prompted former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua to publicly address his absence.
At the time, Gachagua stated that Malalah had taken a short break from active politics after suffering from flu following exhaustion during the Cleo Malalah Super Cup, a high-profile sports event that attracted national attention.
However, the explanation did little to quell rumours, with some quarters alleging that Malalah was secretly plotting a return to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking in an interview, Malalah dismissed the claims, confirming that he had indeed been unwell as earlier stated by Gachagua.
He noted that the demanding schedule around the Super Cup, coupled with exposure to cold weather, took a toll on his health, forcing him to step back temporarily to recuperate.
“I want to assure Kenyans that there was nothing political about my absence. I was simply unwell and needed time to recover,” Malalah said.
The Kakamega Senator took the opportunity to firmly affirm his loyalty to DCP and its leadership, backing Gachagua’s sentiments and dismissing talk of defection as propaganda.
He described himself as a principled leader committed to the party’s vision and ideology, adding that his focus remains on strengthening DCP ahead of future political contests.
Malalah’s re-emergence and clear stance are expected to stabilize the party and calm supporters who had grown uneasy during his silence. As political temperatures continue to rise, his remarks signal renewed engagement and unity within the DCP ranks.
