For a week now, the country has been focused on the discussion around the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Kibwezi West member of Parliament Mwinge Mutuse moved a motion to remove Gachagua on 11 grounds.
At the national assembly, the legislators voted in huge numbers to remove him from the office. 282 members of Parliament voted in favor of motion sending it to the Senate where the debate has been taking place for two days.
Today, the Deputy President failed to appear for cross-examination in the afternoon after falling sick. His Lawyers went on to leave the chambers citing lack of instructions from their client. Well, the senators have gone ahead to impeach him on the following grounds.

Ground 1 – Shareholding remarks
Ground 4 – Undermining Independence of Judges
Ground 5 – National Cohesion & Integrity Act
Ground 6 – Crimes under National Cohesion act
Ground 9 – Gross Misconduct by publicly attacking the NIS

Gachagua was impeached on count one. Where he was accused of shareholder allegations. 53 senators voted in support of the motion. The Senate only needed one count to send home former deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
