Musalia Mudavadi Deals Sifuna Major Blow With 2027 Declaration
VIHIGA, Kenya – The political landscape for the 2027 General Election shifted dramatically today, May 1, 2026, as Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi issued a major declaration that complicates the path for the opposition.
A Unified Front in Vihiga
Speaking during the 61st national Labour Day celebrations at Chavakali High School, Mudavadi formally declared that the “Mulembe Nation” would firmly back President William Ruto for a second term. The event, historically held outside Nairobi for the first time, was attended by President Ruto, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, and a host of Western Kenya dignitaries.
“In 2022, I asked you to support William Ruto, and you listened,” Mudavadi told the cheering crowd. “Today, I am back to tell you that our journey with this administration continues. We are locked in for 2027.”
Bad News for Edwin Sifuna
The declaration is a stinging setback for Senator Edwin Sifuna, the embattled Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). For months, Sifuna has been the face of the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative, traversing the country and specifically targeting the Western region to mobilize a revolt against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Sifuna’s strategy relied heavily on consolidating the Luhya vote to serve as a cornerstone for the opposition’s bid to unseat Ruto. However, with Mudavadi—the region’s de facto political kingpin—reaffirming his alliance with the President, Sifuna’s tactical roadmap faces a significant roadblock.Shifting Tides
Political analysts suggest that Mudavadi’s move, backed by the presence of influential figures like Francis Atwoli, signals a closing of ranks in Western Kenya. While Sifuna continues to call on Kenyans to “throw out” the current government, the declaration at Chavakali suggests that the ground in his own backyard may be shifting under his feet.
As the 2027 race heats up, Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi brigade may be forced back to the drawing board to counter this renewed “Yellow Wave” in the West.
