US ISSUES TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR KENYA FOLLOWING NANYUKI PROTESTS; TRUMP APPOINTS NEW AMBASSADOR
NAIROBI, KENYA –
The United States government has issued an urgent travel advisory for its citizens in Kenya following a wave of protests that erupted in the town of Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
The demonstrations are in staunch opposition to the proposed establishment of an Ebola quarantine center, which is reportedly designated for American citizens.
In a security alert issued on June 1, 2026, the US Embassy in Nairobi warned that the unrest could rapidly spread to other major urban centers, including the capital city of Nairobi, in the coming days.
The embassy emphasized that protests in Kenya are frequently met with a heavy police presence, which can lead to road closures, transport disruptions, and heightened security tensions.
“The US Embassy is aware of the June 1 protests in Nanyuki Town, Laikipia County. Similar protests may occur in Nanyuki Town and other urban areas, including Nairobi, in the coming days,” the official statement from the US government read.
In light of the situation, President Donald Trump’s administration has urged all Americans living in or visiting Kenya to take proactive measures for their personal safety.

Henry Wooster Appointed as New US Ambassador to Kenya
Amid these developing security concerns, the White House announced a significant shift in its diplomatic leadership in Kenya on June 1. President Donald Trump has nominated veteran diplomat Henry Wooster to serve as the new United States Ambassador to Kenya.
According to a statement from the White House, Wooster has been officially nominated as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of Kenya, pending confirmation by the US Senate.
Wooster is widely regarded as a seasoned pillar of American diplomacy, boasting decades of extensive experience in foreign policy and international relations.
He has previously held several high-ranking positions within the US Department of State and various diplomatic missions globally. His appointment comes at a critical juncture as the bilateral relationship faces a fresh socio-security test driven by local anxieties over the Ebola virus.
