Mount Kenya region politics continues to heat up as the 2027 general election draws closer, with leaders jostling for influence in the vote-rich region.
The rivalry over who controls the Mount Kenya bloc is increasingly shaping up between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and President William Ruto.
On Tuesday, political drama played out during a funeral ceremony in the region after former Murang’a County Woman Representative Sabina Chege found herself on the receiving end of sharp criticism from leaders allied to Gachagua.
The leaders accused Chege of double standards in her political engagements, particularly over her public stance on President Ruto and Gachagua.

Laikipia County Senator John Methu openly challenged Chege, questioning why she is quick to criticize Gachagua when appearing alongside President Ruto, yet remains silent when attending meetings with the former Deputy President.
Methu urged her to be consistent and to also call out President Ruto whenever he makes mistakes, instead of focusing her attacks on Gachagua alone.
A video circulating on social media captured the tense moment, showing Sabina Chege appearing visibly unimpressed.
As the lecture continued, she was seen glued to her phone, seemingly ignoring the remarks directed at her, a move that has sparked mixed reactions online.
The incident highlights the growing tensions within Mount Kenya politics as leaders position themselves ahead of 2027.
